This Pipefitter position is located in the Facility Maintenance Service Line at the Department of Veterans Affairs, VHA Connecticut, Newington Campus, under the HVAC & Mechanical Pipe Shop Supervisor. The role involves modifying, maintaining, and repairing a variety of high, medium, and low-pressure piping systems.
The incumbent cuts, threads, and installs pipe, hangers, insulation, condensate tanks and pumps, steam & hot water heating devices, heat controls, condensate traps, circulating pumps, radiators, and hot water heaters. Responsibilities include installing, plumbing, and maintaining various lines (copper, cast & black iron, steel, brass, and plastics), drains, vents, fixtures, and medical and food service equipment.
40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm EST.

Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, working in tiring positions, handling parts up to 50 pounds, with occasional heavier items.
Must be a U.S. citizen, pass background checks, drug testing, and complete onboarding. Males born after 12/31/1959 must register for Selective Service. Complete application includes resume, transcripts, and other documents.
Applicants must demonstrate experience or training sufficient to perform the duties, supported by detailed resume descriptions. Experience is evaluated per OPM standards. The screening-out element involves equipment assembly, blueprint reading, troubleshooting, and working independently.
