Job summary

Sunrock is seeking a Pipe Layer in Durham, NC to install ductile iron, RCP, storm drain, water, and sanitary sewer lines for heavy civil projects. The ideal candidate has 1–2+ years of utility or site work experience with a strong focus on safety and quality.

You will work with excavators and other operators, read grade stakes, and use pipe lasers to ensure lines are to line and grade. Sunrock offers competitive pay, benefits, and advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience installing underground utilities.
• Experience around excavators, dozers, backhoes.
• Knowledge of ductile iron and RCP pipe installation preferred.
• Ability to read grade stakes and use lasers.
• Must have reliable transportation and reside within 60 miles of Durham, NC.
• Physically able to work outdoors year-round and lift up to 75 lbs.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Install water, sewer, and storm drainage systems (ductile iron, RCP, PVC, HDPE).
• Set up and align pipe to grade using lasers or hand levels.
• Work with heavy equipment during trenching and backfill.
• Assist with grading, trench prep, and bedding installation.
• Follow safety protocols and trench protection at all times.
• Operate or assist heavy equipment as needed.
• Maintain tools, materials, and jobsite cleanliness.
• Communicate with crew leaders and foremen.
