Job summary

Sunrock in Durham, NC is seeking an experienced Pipe Layer to install ductile iron, RCP, storm drain, water, and sanitary sewer lines for heavy civil projects. The ideal candidate has 1–2+ years in utility or site development crews and can safely and efficiently lay pipe to line and grade.

You will work with excavator/backhoe operators, perform trench prep, and maintain safety. We offer competitive pay, 2 weeks PTO, full benefits, and a sign-on bonus for verified experience.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience installing underground utilities or related pipe systems.
• Experience around heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, backhoes).
• Knowledge of ductile iron and RCP pipe installation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Install water, sewer, and storm drainage systems (ductile iron, RCP, PVC, HDPE).
• Set up and align pipe to grade using lasers or hand levels.
• Work with operators during trenching and backfill operations.
• Assist with grading, trench prep, and bedding installation.
• Maintain safety protocols and trench protection at all times.
• Operate or assist heavy equipment as needed.
• Maintain tools, materials, and jobsite cleanliness.
• Communicate effectively with crew leaders and foremen.
