Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Pick/Pack Lead to support warehouse fulfillment operations. This role performs and directs picking, packing, labeling, documentation, and order-preparation activities while helping execute the supervisor’s operating plan. As proficiency develops, the Lead assumes greater responsibility for coordinating multiple work areas, adjusting labor, resolving operational exceptions, and maintaining continuity in the supervisor’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily work within assigned pick, pack, or related warehouse areas according to the supervisor’s operating plan.
- Assign employees to tasks and communicate daily priorities, production goals, and standard work requirements.
- Perform and oversee the accurate picking, counting, weighing, scanning, packing, labeling, and preparation of orders for shipment or storage.
- Monitor productivity, order accuracy, quality, attendance, safety, and adherence to established procedures.
- Inspect products, packaging, and documentation; address routine discrepancies and escalate significant inventory, quality, staffing, or workflow issues.
- Provide new-hire training, cross-training, immediate coaching, and reinforcement of standard work.
- Maintain orderly workflow during normal operating conditions and adjust task assignments or labor as operational needs change.
- Coordinate work between departments, shipping locations, carriers, and operational handoffs.
- Resolve routine workflow, inventory, quality, equipment, and staffing exceptions within assigned authority.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic production, inventory, packing, shipping, and performance records.
- Provide clear, documented performance observations and operational updates to the supervisor.
- Support the development of less-experienced employees and Leads by demonstrating sound judgment and effective problem-solving.
- Open, close, or temporarily coordinate the assigned operation in the supervisor’s absence when authorized.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and ensure compliance with warehouse safety requirements.
- Meet established productivity, accuracy, quality, service, and attendance expectations.
- Participate in cross-department training and perform other duties supporting business operations or facilities maintenance as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous warehouse, picking, packing, shipping, or distribution experience required; prior leadership or training experience preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in pick/pack processes, inventory controls, barcode scanning, packaging requirements, and order documentation.
- Ability to direct daily work, communicate priorities, and provide constructive coaching.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify operational issues, resolve routine exceptions, and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Ability to operate barcode scanners, basic warehouse equipment, and electronic order systems.
- Basic computer skills for completing records, forms, and performance documentation.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills across departments and levels of the organization.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift or move materials within established safety limits.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and assume increasing operational responsibility.
