Job summary

Maricopa County Community College District seeks a Physics Faculty member to instruct lectures and laboratory sessions for diverse student populations. You will develop courses within the Physics discipline, using varied instructional methods and technology to promote student success.

• Teaching experience in physics at a post-secondary level is preferred.
• Subjects: Physics (PHY) or Physical Sciences; courses may include introductory to advanced topics.

Responsibilities

• Instructs Physics classes (lectures/lab sessions) for a diverse student population.
• Develops course materials, syllabi, and assessments; uses student-centered teaching strategies.
• Assesses student knowledge, grades examinations and lab work, and participates in program review processes.
• Maintains current knowledge of physics education trends; participates in department/division meetings and curriculum development.
• Maintains office hours and provides tutoring and advising support to students.

Job Summary

Instructs Physics classes (lectures/laboratory sessions) for students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures. Teaches and develops various courses within the discipline of Physics ranging from introductory to more advanced coursework. Uses multiple methods of instruction, assessment, and appropriate technologies to engage students and promote student success. Participates in division meetings, campus organizations, and curriculum development as needed.

Essential Functions

• Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom setting; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; uses learner centered strategies to engage students and promote student success
• Assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations, lab assessments, and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning
• Develops instructional materials and curriculum; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques; maintains a team approach and collaborates positively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects.
• Maintains office hours and email contacts to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Academic

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:

• Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
• Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours

Desired Qualifications

• Evidence of one or more years of Physics teaching experience at a post-secondary college or university.
• Evidence of experience teaching college Physics courses ranging from Introductory to Advanced (200 level) coursework
• Evidence of experiences working with diverse populations of students and staff
• Evidence of specific experiences using current and relevant pedagogies, such as student-centered teaching (e.g., active or cooperative learning, flipped classrooms, problem-based learning) in the classroom and/or laboratory
• Evidence of specific experiences using a variety of techniques to assess student learning and improve teaching
• Evidence of specific experiences using appropriate technology in both lecture and lab environments
• One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

Special Working Conditions
