Job summary

Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) seeks an Instructional Services Director - Assessment Director to lead college-wide assessment and program review. The role collaborates with faculty and academic affairs leaders to strengthen assessment practices and use results for improvement, reporting to the Office of Academic Affairs.

The candidate will chair the Assessment Leadership Team, guide work teams, and ensure documentation and reports meet accreditation standards.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education, organizational development or directly related field with four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years of management and supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Job Summary

The Assessment Director provides college-wide leadership for student learning outcomes assessment, academic program review, and related continuous improvement processes. The Director leads the collaborative development and implementation of a comprehensive approach to assessing student learning outcomes at the course, program, general education, and institutional levels, with a primary focus on supporting faculty-led assessment efforts.


Working within the Office of Academic Affairs and reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director provides leadership for college-wide assessment, academic program review, and continuous improvement efforts. In collaboration with faculty, academic affairs leaders, the Center for Teaching and Learning, department leads, and other college stakeholders, the Director develops and supports processes that use evidence to improve teaching and learning, strengthen academic programs, and advance institutional effectiveness.


The Director chairs the college Assessment Leadership Team, leads assessment work teams, including the Department and General Education Assessment Coordinators. Through collaboration, professional development, and ongoing consultation, the Director works to strengthen assessment practices and promote the meaningful use of assessment results for improvement.


50% - Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Leadership


  • Collaborate with faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive approach to the assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, program, general education, and institutional levels.

  • Provide strategic short- and long-term planning and direction for assessment activities to promote effective practices and ensure alignment with institutional priorities and accreditation expectations.

  • Provide leadership and support to faculty, staff, and administrators in developing student learning outcomes, implementing meaningful assessment practices, and using assessment results to improve teaching and learning.

  • Chairs the college Assessment Leadership Team, lead assessment work teams, and support Department Assessment Coordinators in sustaining high-quality assessment efforts.

  • Maintain the college's assessment repository and associated documentation.

  • Facilitate assessment plans and reports and prepare the annual college assessment report.


30% - Academic Program Review Leadership


  • Work with academic leadership to coordinate and support the college's academic program review (APR) process, including establishing timelines, providing guidance and resources, supporting faculty and academic leaders throughout the review, and promoting the use of program review findings for continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with academic affairs leadership to develop and maintain APR guidance, templates, training, and other resources that promote meaningful and consistent program review practices.

  • Collaborate with OIE and other college and district partners to provide data and evidence needed for program review and support faculty and academic leaders in interpreting findings and identifying improvement actions.

  • Coordinate APR documentation and reporting and monitor completion, recommendations, improvement actions, and follow-up.


20% - Assessment Capacity Building and Institutional Improvement


  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and academic leadership to support the effective integration of assessment, academic program review, planning, and institutional improvement processes.

  • Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to facilitate faculty and staff professional development related to student learning outcomes assessment and academic program review.

  • Develop and maintain training materials, guides, templates, and other resources to support faculty and staff participation in assessment, academic program review, and continuous improvement activities.

  • Conduct surveys, focus groups, and other feedback activities to identify faculty, staff, and student perspectives on assessment, program review, and continuous improvement processes.

  • Represent the college to external agencies, partners, and professional organizations at meetings and conferences related to assessment, academic program review, continuous improvement, and accreditation; develop and maintain partnerships that advance effective institutional practices.

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, organizational development or directly related field and four (4) years of experience in areas such as planning, developing, implementing, administering, and evaluating instructional services programs which experience includes two (2) years of management and supervisory experience. OR An equivalent combination of education and/or experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.


Desired Qualifications


  • A.Full-time college-level teaching experience.

  • B.Leadership experience in the development, implementation, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

  • C.Experience designing, coordinating, or improving course, program and general education student learning outcomes assessment processes.

  • D.Experience with accreditation and academic program review, including applying accreditor criteria and standards to assessment and continuous improvement practices.

  • E.Experience collaborating with faculty and academic leaders within a shared governance environment.

  • F.Experience conducting research, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, using findings to inform academic improvement, and communicating assessment results

  • G.One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.


Special Working Conditions


  • Standard work schedule varies during the year: August through mid‑May: Monday - Friday, 8 hour days; mid‑May through the end of July: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days

  • Some evenings and weekends required to attend college events/activities

  • Required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor

  • May be required to travel or be assigned to another MCCD location

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense

  • MCC does not sponsor individuals for work visas
