Summary

Northport VAMC - Northport VA Medical Center supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence and is looking for a Full-time General Surgical Physician. Prefer at least 5 years of experience including colorectal, surgical oncology, and/or critical care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
• Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with comparable experience.
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), which are limited to supervised duties.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred Experience: Board certification.
• Physical requirements as outlined in VA Handbook 5019.

Duties

• Clinical: Provide quality patient care, guide staff, conduct bedside rounds, document findings, assess and evaluate patient care, and address patient needs across age groups.
• Administration: Coordinate surgical service activities, participate in QA reviews, staff meetings, and hospital committees, and ensure effective operations and communication.
