Summary

The VA Maine HCS and the Togus VA Medical Center are seeking a full-time Emergency Medicine Physician at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine. The ED Physician provides acute and non-acute medical care to ambulatory and critically ill patients within the VA Maine Healthcare System - Togus campus. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Emergency Department Co-Directors and the Chief of Medical Service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. VA physicians previously employed and meeting the initial qualification standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship (non-citizens only when qualified citizens are unavailable)
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by VA
• Eligibility for board certification in Emergency Medicine
• Proficiency in English
• Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications

Preferred Experience:

Emergency Department experience

Physical Requirements:

• Heavy lifting, reaching, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling
• Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination
• Correctable near and far vision; ability to distinguish colors; hearing

Duties

• Provide comprehensive emergency care, including assessments, treatment planning, and diagnostic testing
• Respond to emergency situations, including code responses
• Support Tele-Emergency Care duties
• Supervise and collaborate with ED nurses and advanced practice providers
• Participate in quality assurance, chart reviews, and medical record documentation
• Serve on medical center committees and attend staff meetings
• Teach and mentor trainees and staff
• Maintain certifications and complete mandatory training
