Summary

Northport VAMC - Northport VA Medical Center supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence and is looking for a Full-time General Surgical Physician. Prefer at least 5 years of experience including colorectal, surgical oncology, and/or critical care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed qualified.

• United States Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Full, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training in an accredited program leading to eligibility for board certification
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Preferred: Board certification

Duties

• Provide quality patient care and guide staff in standards of practice
• Conduct weekly bedside rounds to discuss patient care, policies, and QA findings
• Identify and resolve clinical problems with proper documentation
• Assess and evaluate patient care quality and appropriateness
• Participate in clinical rounds and ensure compliance with standards
• Address the specific needs of patients across different age groups, considering cognitive, physical, emotional, and behavioral factors
• Coordinate Surgical Service activities and participate in QA reviews and staff meetings
• Facilitate quality care and effective operations through communication and problem-solving
