The Chief of Staff (COS) reports to the Medical Center Director and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team. The COS provides leadership for clinical care, emphasizing access to high-quality care for Veterans and patient safety. The COS is actively involved in leadership and management of resources, organizational performance improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, the environment of care, and strategic planning.
Duties:
As the physician executive, the COS is involved in leadership and management of resources, organizational performance, patient and employee satisfaction, environment of care, and strategic planning. They influence the quality, access, and effectiveness of medical programs through direct leadership or collaboration with Service Chiefs. The COS promotes clinical standards and conducts staff compliance with credentialing, privileging, clinical practice monitoring, peer review, and quality assurance activities. They ensure staff compliance with regulations, bylaws, policies, standards, and foster a system-oriented quality improvement environment.

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until requirements are met. VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards are deemed qualified.
