This job posting encompasses all available Physician coding roles, including Physician Coder I, Physician Coder II, and Physician Senior Coder positions. Applicants will be considered for the appropriate role based on current organizational needs, manager discretion, relevant experience, passing a coding assessment, and qualifications outlined for each position.

Accurately and efficiently access a wide range of specialty physician billing and Health Information Systems to gather all necessary records for accurate coding and billing of professional physician and/or physician extender services.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions for Coder II:

• Review medical records and code physician services using current ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems.
• Code diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, procedures, supplies, materials, injections, and drugs with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Verify billable physician services by reviewing documentation for adherence to federal “Physician at Teaching Hospital” rules.
• Report issues or trends found in documentation to the Senior Coder for evaluation.
• Collaborate with the specialty team to monitor financial goals.
• Assist the Central Business Office to ensure proper follow-up of patient accounts to maximize reimbursement.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and management.
• Use departmental resources to support accurate coding.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Demonstrate good communication skills both verbally and in writing.
• Maintain a 90% accuracy rate.
• Attend scheduled meetings.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance per Orlando Health policies.
• Follow all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical terminology; computer/typing literacy required.
• Proven knowledge of CPT and ICD coding with a coding skills test score of 80% or higher.

Licensure/Certification:

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CCS-P, CCA, or CMC from recognized organizations.

Required Experience:

• Three (3) years of certified coding experience in professional or physician practice coding.
• Proficiency in multi-specialty E/M coding and minor bedside procedures preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical coding is desired.
