Job description

Summary

This is an open continuous announcement until September 30, 2025. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the appointment requirements under the previous standards at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, according to VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved medical school.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice in the U.S.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited residency programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on a limited basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Educational requirements for a Cardiologist for Federal employment and credentialing.
  • Preferred Experience: Prior experience as a Cardiologist.
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties

  • Work as a Cardiologist providing inpatient and outpatient care, including surgery and call rotation.
  • Manage consults from primary care and specialty clinics.
  • Accountable to the Chief of Cardiology, with duties including documentation, recognizing complex patient situations, and intervening appropriately.
  • Engage in quality improvement, team development, and performance tracking.
  • Develop standards of practice, facilitate communication, and ensure effective patient and team interactions.
  • Work schedule to be discussed during the interview.
