Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent from an accredited medical or osteopathic school.
• The degree must be from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of graduation.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any US state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to board eligibility, recognized by the VA.
• For academic appointments, board certification may be required.
• Residency programs approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-US programs with at least five years of verified practice in the US.
• Residents in accredited programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and work on a fee or intermittent basis, under supervision, and are not considered independent practitioners.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred: Board eligibility.
• Physical requirements as per VA Handbook 5019.

Duties

• Offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including incentives like sign-on bonuses and possible contract buyouts for rural service.
• Participate in the VHA Physician Total Rewards program.
• Engage in outpatient cardiology services at the Bath, NY VA Medical Center, with occasional travel to other Finger Lakes Healthcare locations.
• Interpret EKGs, transthoracic echocardiograms, ambulatory monitors, and participate in stress testing and related services.
• Work schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday.
