Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • Citizenship: The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) encourages eligible non-citizens to apply. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an accredited residency training program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Experience: Qualified to perform duties as a physician, having completed an accredited residency and/or possessing relevant experience.
  • Preferred Experience: Board Eligible/Board Certified. For more information, visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/.
  • Physical Requirements: Repetitive body movements, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, maintaining upright position, moving about, and lifting objects or patients as described.
Duties
  • Provide consultative services for cardiology referrals in outpatient settings, managing conditions such as heart failure, chest pain, coronary artery disease, etc.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including echocardiograms, EKGs, ambulatory monitors, and stress tests, applying relevant guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cardiology teams, participate in fellowship programs, attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform peer reviews.
  • Perform duties via face-to-face and VVC/CVT modalities.
  • This position offers a sign-on bonus (up to 15% of salary per year, up to 4 years), EDRP, and coverage of moving expenses to Wilkes-Barre, PA.
