Job description

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and administer physical therapy services in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and established policies and procedures, under the direction of the Administrator. The goal is to ensure the highest quality of care and safety for patients.

Delegation of Authority

You are delegated the necessary administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to perform your duties effectively.

Job Functions

1. Evaluate patients, establish treatment plans and goals in cooperation with referring physicians and patients.
2. Administer treatments directly or supervise department personnel in treatment delivery.
3. Review department policies, procedures, manuals, and job descriptions at least annually.
4. Maintain accurate treatment records, progress notes, and statistics.
5. Represent the facility and participate in meetings as directed.
6. Ensure charges for physical therapy are processed correctly by the Rehab receptionist.
7. Attend workshops, seminars, and training to stay current with healthcare developments and maintain professional status.
8. Evaluate and treat patients of all age groups, including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
9. Assume supervision responsibilities of the Physical Therapy Manager as delegated.
10. Maintain patient confidentiality and rights at all times.
11. Monitor patient safety continually.
12. Monitor equipment condition regularly.
13. Communicate patient status, goals, and treatment plans with relevant staff and disciplines.
14. Demonstrate competence in clinical skills and knowledge.
15. Evaluate patients' age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, and physiological norms.
16. Recognize psychological development and modify approaches accordingly.
17. Develop discharge plans considering lifestyle changes due to illness.
18. Assess physical/emotional dependency needs and support systems.
19. Use age-appropriate communication and interview techniques.
20. Assess patients for signs of abuse or neglect and refer to appropriate personnel or agencies.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Must hold a Physical Therapist license in MA.
• Minimum experience as a therapist in a hospital, SNF, or related medical facility.
• Training in rehabilitation and restorative therapy practices.
