Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation Services, evaluates and provides direct patient care per physician orders to rehabilitate patients in an outpatient setting to achieve stated goals. Services are provided according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards.
Physical Therapist Key Responsibilities
- Complete a full initial evaluation on each referred patient according to established procedures and physician orders.
- Provide timely documentation during evaluations.
- Report progress clearly and daily.
- Instruct and assess patients in various functional activities.
- Perform and assist with therapeutic modalities and techniques tailored to the patient's age group.
- Reassess and modify treatment plans as needed based on patient progress and status.
- Collaborate with the care team on assessments, care plans, and discharge planning.
- Instruct care staff on therapeutic techniques and equipment.
- Delegate treatments to PTAs to enhance workflow and productivity.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers ongoingly.
- Maintain a positive attitude and adhere to WE CARE standards.
- Use computerized documentation proficiently.
- Utilize appropriate outcome measures.
- Participate in departmental Lean activities and projects.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants and rehabilitation aides.
- Provide clinical supervision to students per guidelines.
- Participate in mentoring programs if applicable.
- Establish daily schedules, treatment plans, and priorities.
- Follow policies on quality, safety, and infection control.
- Respect and incorporate cultural diversity in care.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, respecting cultural, values, and age differences, using interpreters when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Work independently within department policies, consulting supervisors for unusual cases.
- Follow established policies, including quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
- Respect the dignity of all patients and staff to ensure a professional environment.
Education/Experience/Licensure/Other
- Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy with 5 years of clinical experience or Master of Science/DPT. Previous experience outside clinical requirements is not necessary.
- Minimum of one year of on-the-job proficiency. Basic CPR training provided.
- Registration/Licensing in Massachusetts required.
