Job summary

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation – Wyoming & Grand Rapids Main Campus seeks a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) for inpatient care. The role is full time, days shift, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

You will provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist, keep treatment skills current through continuing education, and contribute to the program's goals and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
  • Licensure with the State of Michigan.
  • Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.
  • Assist the physical therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluation procedures.
  • Assist the physical therapist in treating patients utilizing modalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities.
  • Provide verbal and/or written feedback to the physical therapist regarding all significant observations or changes in the patient’s condition, reaction, and response to treatment.
  • Assist the physical therapist in determining equipment and supply needs and may participate in the acquisition and inventory of these items.
  • Function as primary therapist in treatment of patient following evaluation and direction of physical therapist.
  • Document patient’s status and progress according to established internal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines.
  • Communicate with others to integrate physical therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care.
  • Participate in conferences/discussions and exchange of written records with other interdisciplinary team members as directed by the physical therapist to integrate the physical therapy treatment plan.
  • Instruct the patient and family in physical therapy procedures as part of providing patient and family education, including written instructions as necessary.
  • Participate in various meetings and in-services as designated.
  • Follow all hospital policy and procedures including patient confidentiality and infection control.
  • Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.
  • Provide discipline-specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.
  • Support program operations as assigned.
  • Act as patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required to meet job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers and members of the community.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) – Inpatient

Primary Location: Wyoming & Grand Rapids Main Campus

Department Name: U of M West - Inpatient & Sub Acute Rehab - Split FTE

Employment Type: Full time

Shift: Days

Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40

Hours of Work: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Days Worked: Monday - Friday

Weekend Frequency: Every third weekend

Compensation: Starting at $25.40 - $35.56 (eligible for increase based on experience)

Summary

Provides physical therapy services as assigned by, and under the supervision of, a physical therapist. Keeps treatment skills updated through continuing education, evidence‑based research, and program development. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the program's strategic objectives and goals to carry out organizational strategic objectives.

Age Specific Responsibility

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students; supervise, teach, and evaluate skills of students and volunteers; communicate with participating universities regarding skill levels of students.
  • Function as a resource person in area of expertise.
  • Participate in program development and/or research activities as assigned.
  • Participate in orientation and training of new staff.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.
