Job Summary

Physical Therapist Assistant – Pediatrics Day Shift. Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist and keeps treatment skills updated through continuing education, evidence‑based research, and program development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist the physical therapist in treatment planning and evaluation procedures.


• Assist in treating patients using modalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities.


• Provide verbal and/or written feedback to the physical therapist regarding significant observations or changes in the patient’s condition.


• Assist in determining equipment and supply needs and may participate in inventory and acquisition.


• Function as the primary therapist in treatment following evaluation and direction of the physical therapist.


• Document patient status and progress according to established time standards and reimbursement guidelines.


• Communicate with others to integrate physical therapy into overall patient care.


• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, conferences, and exchange of written records.


• Instruct patients and families in therapy procedures and provide written instructions.


• Participate in meetings, in‑services, and trainings as designated.


• Follow hospital policy and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control.


• Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.


• Provide discipline‑specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.


• Support program operations as assigned.


• Act as a patient advocate.


• Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware.


• Adhere to Mary Free Bed standards of behavior when interacting with patients, coworkers, and the community.


• Serve as clinical instructor for physical therapist‑assistant students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating student and volunteer skills.


• Communicate with partner universities regarding student skill levels.


• Serve as a resource person in the area of expertise.


• Participate in program development and/or research activities as assigned.


• Participate in orientation and training of new staff.


• Assist in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.


• Licensure with the State of Michigan.
