Physical Therapist Assistant
At Mary Free Bed, a Physical Therapist Assistant will provide quality physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care, treatment, and services within scope of license and regulations.
- Assist the physical therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluations.
- Assist the physical therapist in treating patients using modalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities.
- Provide verbal and written feedback regarding patient observations and changes in condition.
- Assist the physical therapist in determining equipment and supply needs and participate in acquisition and inventory.
- Act as primary therapist in treating patients following evaluation and direction of the physical therapist.
- Document patient status and progress according to internal/external standards and reimbursement guidelines.
- Communicate with interdisciplinary team members to integrate physical therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care.
- Participate in conferences, meetings, and in‑services as directed by the physical therapist.
- Educate patients and families in physical therapy procedures and provide written instructions as necessary.
- Attend in‑services and orientation of new staff as designated.
- Follow all hospital policies including patient confidentiality and infection control.
- Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.
- Provide discipline‑specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.
- Support program operations and function as a patient advocate.
- Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required for job responsibilities.
- Adhere to Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers, and the community.
Other Responsibilities
- Serve as clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students; supervise, teach, and evaluate students and volunteers; communicate with universities regarding student skill levels.
- Act as resource person within the area of expertise.
- Participate in program development and research activities as assigned.
- Participate in orientation and training of new staff.
- Assist in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
- Licensed in the State of Michigan.
- Maintains BLS certification per department protocol.
