Job summary

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, seeks a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to support the physical therapy team in evaluating and treating patients. Qualifications

Physical Therapist Assistant
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of the license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation.
  • Assist the physical therapist in treatment planning and performing evaluations.
  • Assist the physical therapist in treating patients utilizing modalities, therapeutic exercises, assistive devices, and functional activities.
  • Offer verbal and/or written feedback to the physical therapist regarding significant observations or changes in the patient's condition, reaction, and response to treatment.
  • Assist the physical therapist in determining equipment and supply needs and participate in the acquisition and inventory of these items.
  • Serve as the primary therapist in patient treatment following evaluation and direction of the physical therapist.
  • Document the patient’s status and progress according to established internal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines.
  • Communicate with others to integrate physical therapy treatment with all aspects of patient care.
  • Participate in conferences, discussions, and exchange of written records with interdisciplinary team members as directed by the physical therapist to integrate the treatment plan.
  • Instruct the patient and the family in physical therapy procedures, providing written instructions as necessary.
  • Participate in various meetings and in-services as designated.
  • Follow hospital policy and procedures including confidentiality and infection control.
  • Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.
  • Provide discipline‑specific coverage (following cross training) within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.
  • Support program operations as assigned.
  • Function as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when working with patients, coworkers, and the community.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating their skills and communicating with participating universities.
  • Act as a resource person in the area of expertise.
  • Participate in program development and/or research activities as assigned.
  • Participate in orientation and training of new staff.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.
Customer Service Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behavior, encourage, coach, and monitor team members. Consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co‑workers while handling confidential information discretely and sensitively.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement

Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible and participate in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
