Job summary

Westwood Post Acute is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in San Jose, California. With a 258‑bed capacity, it is one of the Bay Area’s largest long‑term care homes, staffed by top‑rated healthcare professionals.

Position Overview

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) collaborates with Physical Therapists to deliver physical therapy treatments and procedures. By state law, the PTA may assist in developing treatment plans, carry out routine functions, document progress, and modify specific treatments within the scope of established plans.

Responsibilities
  • Instruct and motivate patients during exercises and functional activities; observe and record patient responses and progress, providing results to the physical therapist in person or via progress notes.
  • Collaborate with physical therapy staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment. Educate caregivers and family members on therapeutic activities and treatment plans.
  • Transport patients to and from treatment areas, lift and transfer them per positioning requirements, and secure them in or onto therapy equipment.
  • Administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, aquatic physical therapy, and heat, light, sound, and electrical modality treatments such as ultrasound.
  • Measure patients’ range of joint motion, body parts, and vital signs to assess treatment effects or for patient evaluations.
  • Monitor equipment operation and record equipment usage and administration of treatment.
  • Fit patients for orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a CAPTE‑accredited PTA program.
  • Active California PTA license, able to practice unencumbered in California.
  • Active BLS/CPR certification.
  • Minimum of six months experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred; recent graduates encouraged to apply.
  • In good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare and other payer sources.
  • Full knowledge of residents’ rights.
  • Experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
