Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatment and provides exercise instruction and patient education aimed at improving/enhancing the patient's well-being while following the established plan of care.

1. Responsible for following all state-specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy in home care, following the treatment set only as defined by the supervising PT; performing only procedures qualified and trained for; and making recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.
2. Instructs and aids patients in active and passive exercise, muscle re-education, gait, functional, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
3. Observes, records, and reports to the supervising PT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in condition. Coordinates care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
4. Instructs patient, family, caregiver, and other members of the healthcare team within scope of practice.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

1. Current licensed, registered, or certified to assist in physical therapy practice in the state of practice.
2. Current CPR certification is required.
3. Current driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.
