General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant PV to join our team at MedStar Health Home Care. As a Physical Therapy Assistant PV, you will provide physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a physical therapist, adhering to agency standards, state laws, and regulations governing physical therapy services in Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia. Primary Duties:

1. Assist patients and caregivers in planning for discharge, including referrals to community resources such as outpatient therapy, daycare, or driver's education.
2. Help the physical therapist assess the patient's environment and recommend adaptive equipment or home modifications to maximize safety and functional abilities.
3. Assist in obtaining items reimbursable as orthotics, prosthetics, or durable medical equipment.
4. Communicate regularly with supervisors and the rehab department regarding patient care, scheduling, and coverage issues.
5. Maintain effective relationships with other departments and participate in quality improvement teams, meetings, and community outreach efforts.
6. Enhance personal growth through educational programs and professional affiliations.
7. Coordinate with the healthcare team regarding patient's care and status, providing updates on functional progress.
8. Conduct assessments including interviews, observations, palpation, tests, measurements (e.g., goniometry, vital signs, circumferential measurements) using appropriate tools.
9. Document patient records accurately per agency standards and regulatory requirements, aiming for 95% accuracy on technical audits.
10. Provide educational materials to patients and caregivers about their condition, treatment, and post-discharge care management.
11. Deliver physical therapy services according to the treatment plan, including procedures like therapeutic exercises, mobility training, gait training, heat/cold therapy, and ultrasound.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
• 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred.
• Valid Physical Therapist Assistant license in District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.
• Current BLS certification.
• Valid State Driver’s License in good standing.
