Job description

General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Physical Therapy Assistant PV to join our team at MedStar Health Home Care! As a Physical Therapy Assistant PV, you will provide physical therapy treatment as directed by the physical therapist and in accordance with agency standards, the laws and regulations governing the provision of physical therapy services in the State of Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia, and other regulatory requirements. Primary Duties:
  1. Assist the patient and caregiver to plan adequately for discharge, including referrals to appropriate community resources such as outpatient therapy, day care, or driver's education.
  2. Help the patient's physical therapist prepare an adequate discharge plan that maximizes the patient's functional abilities and safety, including assessing the patient's environment and recommending adaptive equipment or home modifications.
  3. Assist in attaining items reimbursable as orthotics/prosthetics or durable medical equipment.
  4. Communicate with supervisor regarding issues related to rehab services and patient care, including scheduling and coverage.
  5. Maintain effective relationships with other departments and participate in quality and service improvement teams.
  6. Participate in meetings, committees, and community outreach efforts, representing the department and agency.
  7. Enhance personal growth through educational programs and affiliations.
  8. Maintain communication with the patient's healthcare team regarding care and status.
  9. Provide information to patients about their functional status and progress toward goals.
  10. Perform duties such as interviews, observations, palpations, tests, and measurements including goniometry, vital signs, and circumferential measurements using appropriate tools.
  11. Ensure accurate medical record entries according to standards and regulations.
  12. Provide educational materials and training to patients and caregivers regarding injury/disease processes and post-discharge care management.
  13. Perform physical therapy procedures such as therapeutic exercises, mobility and gait training, heat/cold applications, and ultrasound, in accordance with the treatment plan.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program.
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience.
  • Physical Therapist Assistant License to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Valid State Driver's License in good standing.
