Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary
Evaluates and treats patients with movement dysfunction and pain resulting from injury, disease, or other health‑related conditions. Treats disorders with physical agents and methods to assist in restoring normal function after illness or injury.
Population Served
Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient populations: Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary, including but not limited to CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc.
Essential Functions
- Performs assessments and re‑assessments according to unit policy and professional standards of care. Collects accurate subjective and objective data, performs individualized evaluations, and documents findings with appropriate action plans.
- Treats patients by selecting and applying appropriate physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises, and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of practice; utilizes rehab equipment safely and effectively, and modifies treatment programs as needed to maximize progress.
- Completes documentation on the same day treatments are rendered, ensuring accuracy and adherence to professional standards.
- Provides supervision and direction to PTAs, PT technicians, students, and volunteers, ensuring correct execution of treatment plans and documentation.
- Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, and referrals for potential rehabilitation services.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement, including data gathering, chart reviews, and implementation of quality assurance action plans.
- Complies with department policy and procedure, safety/infection control plans, OSHA guidelines, employee handbook, and regulatory standards (JACHO, Medicare, CARF, etc.).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy examiners
- BCLS
Required Education/Experience
- MA in Physical Therapy / DPT preferred
Preferred Education, Licensure, Certification, Experience, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- DPT preferred; functional knowledge of Spanish language recommended
