Qualifications

• Current Washington State license to practice as a Physical Therapist.
• Completion of a PT program with one year relevant experience or equivalent.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations of premature and medically complex neonates in NICU, assessing neuromotor development, tone, movement, and reflexes.
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on current evidence and developmental care principles.
• Provide interventions to optimize motor development, stability, positioning, range of motion and functional movement.
• Educate parents and caregivers on infant development, handling, and home programs.
• Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary neonatal team and ensure alignment with hospital policies.

Job DescriptionThe UW Medical Center-Montlake Physical Therapy Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Physical Therapist 2 within the NICU .WORK SCHEDULEPer DiemDay ShiftPOSITION HIGHLIGHTSThe Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Physical Therapist is responsible for providing specialized, evidence-based physical therapy services to medically complex premature and critically ill infants in a Level IV NICU.Working as an integral member of the interdisciplinary neonatal team, a NICU Physical Therapist II evaluates infant neuromotor development, provides individualized developmental interventions, promotes optimal positioning and handling, supports family-centered care, and facilitates safe discharge planning.Strong candidates will have a minimum of one year experience working in a NICU or with pediatric patients.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPerform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations of premature and medically complex neonates, including assessment of neuromotor development, muscle tone, movement quality, posture, reflexes, sensory processing, feeding readiness (as appropriate), and musculoskeletal integrity.Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on current evidence, developmental care principles, and patient-specific medical needs.Provide therapeutic interventions to optimize motor development, physiologic stability, positioning, range of motion, strength, and functional movement while minimizing stress and supporting neuroprotection.Educate parents and caregivers regarding infant development, positioning, handling techniques, developmental milestones, safe sleep practices, equipment needs, and home exercise or developmental programs.Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed. Consult other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
