UW Medical Center – Montlake seeks a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for its Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The CNS provides leadership, clinical guidance, and resources to advance neonatal nursing practice and patient outcomes.

The role focuses on education, protocol development, quality improvement, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of neonatologists, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and families to improve care for micro-preemies and high-risk newborns.

Qualifications

• Master of Nursing (MSN) or higher.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Washington State RN license.
• Five or more years of nursing experience.
• Five or more years of Level IV NICU experience.
• RNC-NIC or CCRN-Neonatal certification currently held.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist contributes to the advancement of nursing practice and the continuous improvement of patient care through:

Unit Description

• Bring your experience and great compassion in caring for multiple births and micro preemies—babies born before 26 weeks gestation or weighing less than 2.2 pounds.
• As part of UW Medicine, the NICU has access to the most advanced neonatal research.
• Our team has been instrumental in setting the standard for reducing risk of brain damage and lung problems in premature babies across the nation.
• Come work with an interdisciplinary team of neonatologists, nurses, neonatal physical therapists, respiratory care practitioners, pharmacists, nutritionists, other health professionals and parents as members of a baby's health-care team.

• Leads selected projects and programs with an emphasis on quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Fosters collaborative relationships with the UW Medical Center CNS team and colleagues across other hospitals and healthcare agencies.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and leadership to assess nursing practice and identify educational and professional development needs.
• Maintains applicable certifications and participates in continuing education activities.
• Promotes the professional growth and advancement of the nursing team.

Requirements

• Master of Nursing (MSN) or higher.

• Five or more years of recent Level IV NICU experience.
• Current RNC-NIC or CCRN-Neonatal certification.
