Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to oversee and improve the production process across TAP divisions in Newton, NJ, with occasional duties at other Thorlabs locations. You will develop assembly techniques, promote quality, and collaborate with RMA to resolve field returns.

Required are a Bachelor's in Physics/Engineering and experience in Lean/Six Sigma. The role emphasizes training, documentation, process control, and continuous improvement across multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a relevant engineering or manufacturing position.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Engineering (Optical, Mechanical, Production), or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Identify manufacturing issues and provide solutions for new and existing products.
• Plan production layouts to enable lean manufacturing and six sigma standards.
• Collaborate with engineering to review procedures before production release.
• Train production staff to improve manufacturing and testing processes.
• Ensure transfer of new product releases to production per release specs.
• Create and maintain manufacturing process documents.
• Develop jigs and fixtures to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
• Support root cause analysis for returns.
