Job summary

Thorlabs in Newton, NJ is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to optimize assembly processes and equipment for specials, OEM, and standard products. You will work on the manufacturing floor to drive continuous improvements and occasionally assist other Thorlabs locations.

You will update drawings for better manufacturability, support in-process automation, and assist with new product introductions with emphasis on quality, cost reduction, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or relevant field.
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.
• Knowledge of ISO and ASTM standards and documentation
• Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
• Strong sense of ownership and work ethic
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.
• Proficiency in basic computer use (MS Office) and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Support and improve assembly procedures, equipment, and processes
• Improve assembly instructions, tools, and jigs for legacy products
• Define and implement COGS reduction efforts
• Update drawings and designs to improve manufacturability
• Facilitate the addition of newly designed products into the assembly department
• Implement and support in-process automation to improve the assembly process
• Solve and improve packaging
• Support and train assembly during new product introductions
• Support the additional demand from specials and OEM business
