Job summary

Southeast Health in Dothan, AL, is seeking a phlebotomy technician to perform venipuncture, accessioning, and related duties in the hospital laboratory and outpatient services.

The role includes patient identification, specimen labeling, STAT draw prioritization, and timely transport of samples. You will assist in training new staff under supervision and help maintain a safe, orderly lab environment.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of four years of high school education preferred.
• One year of full time experience preferred.
• Certification eligible with a National Phlebotomy Association preferred.
• Proficient in LIS Accessioning and Reference Laboratory Send-outs.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
• Determines priority of STAT draws. Ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing.
• Utilizes computers as appropriate in completing assigned functions.
• Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload statistics.
• Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments for orderly workflow.
• Under supervision assists in training new employees and student interns in phlebotomy duties.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures and hospital exposure control plans.
