Qualifications

• Equivalent of four years of high school education preferred.
• One year of full time experience preferred.
• Certification eligible with a National Phlebotomy Association preferred.
• Proficient in LIS Accessioning and Reference Laboratory Send-outs.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) according to procedure.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
• Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport of specimens.
• Utilizes computers in completing assigned functions and documents workload.
• Helps co-workers and communicates with lab departments to ensure workflow.
• Trains new employees and interns in phlebotomy duties under supervision.
• Follows all safety policies and hospital exposure control plans.
• Reads changes in assignment and adapts to higher or lower work as needed.
