Job summary

The role combines technical and non-technical duties to assess specimen fitness for testing and may include waived testing where designated.

Responsibilities include venipunctures, accessioning, safe handling of infectious materials, order verification, specimen labeling, and timely delivery to testing areas.

Qualifications

• Performs venipunctures and skin punctures per CLSI guidelines.
• Accessioning procedures to ensure correct specimen identification.
• Safely handles potentially infectious specimens per regulatory standards.
• Completes competency exams and ongoing training requirements.
• Mentors students and new staff in the department.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens.
• Accessioning and verification of specimen IDs; review orders.
• Safely handles blood, body fluids, and specimens per regulations.
• Delivers prepared specimens to testing areas in a timely manner.
• Maintains logs, quality control, and supplies; supports staff mentoring.
