Job summary

Mercyhealth in Rockford, IL seeks a Phlebotomy Technician 1 to collect, label, and process blood specimens. The role supports patient registration, lab order entry, and timely sample delivery, while performing phlebotomy on diverse patient populations.

Excellent attention to patient safety and documentation is required. The position offers full-time hours, with a 7 AM–4 PM shift and rotating weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy course or previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, CNA or MA helpful.
• Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect, label, and process blood specimens while ensuring patient identification.
• Register patients and enter Demographics/insurance in HIS/LIS.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and maintain specimen integrity.
• Adhere to safety and infection control protocols at all times.
• Transport specimens to the lab and assist with routine operations.
