Job summary

Professional Performance Development Group (PPDG) has a Phantom role at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA for a Phlebotomy Technician (Registered/Certified). The technician collects blood specimens, performs POCT, labels samples, and adheres to safety and infection control standards in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The position requires 1,040 hours of phlebotomy experience in the last 36 months, 100 venipunctures, 10 skin punctures, and BLS/board certification (ASCP or AMT).

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited phlebotomy training program with a minimum of 120 didactic hours.
• Board Certification: ASCP or AMT.
• BLS certification (current).
• Minimum 1,040 hours of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician within the preceding 36 months.
• At least 100 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures.
• Two letters of recommendation within the last two years.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples and perform Point of Care Testing (POCT).
• Verify patient identity using approved identification protocols.
• Label specimens with patient information and collection dates.
• Select appropriate blood collection techniques based on patient condition.
• Transport specimens to designated laboratory sections.
• Centrifuge blood samples as required.
• Maintain infection control standards and follow OSHA/PPE requirements.
• Provide instruction/training as Preceptor/Instructor when designated.
