Job summary

Huntsville Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy technician to obtain blood specimens from patients, label samples, and transport them to the laboratory. The role requires accurate patient identification and adherence to safety protocols in a fast-paced clinical setting.

You will work with a supportive team in a nonprofit health system that invests in education and employee wellness. High school diploma required; MLA certification preferred; CPR training by orientation is expected.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• MLA certification from ASCP or AMT preferred.
• Associates degree with minimum biology and chemistry coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens from patients and deliver to the laboratory or through transport system.
• Identify patients and specimens accurately and maintain confidentiality.

Job description

Obtains blood specimens from patients and delivers specimens to the laboratory and/or sends through the transport system. Correctly identifies patients and specimens.

Education

High School diploma or GED required.

MLA certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency (i.e. ASCP or AMT) preferred. Associates Degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours of biology and 6 semester hours of chemistry preferred.

Experience

Previous work experience strongly preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities

Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information. Absolute integrity and accuracy in the patient identification process. Must complete HeartSaver CPR by the end of the orientation period.
