Job summary

SGMC Health’s Phlebotomy team at the Main Campus seeks a dedicated phlebotomist to obtain and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients, following policy and ensuring proper patient identification.

The role involves exposure to biohazardous materials, accurate data entry, and collaboration with staff. Schedule is Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 0300-1130 with rotating weekends, on-site responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED preferred.
• Prior phlebotomy or medical assistant training preferred; phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Current CPR certification.
• Competence in phlebotomy, office skills and medical terminology.
• Able to stand long periods; good hand-eye coordination.
• Accurate data entry and attention to detail.
• Ability to interact effectively with public, physicians and staff.
• Knowledge to provide age-appropriate phlebotomy for neonate to geriatric patients.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and process specimens per policy with correct patient ID and sufficient sample quantity.
• Operate lab equipment and data-entry into the hospital's Lab/HBOC systems.
• Serve as Public Relations representative from the Laboratory to customers.
• Transport UN3373 / Category B specimens; do not transport certain UN samples or narcotics.
