Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Berkeley, CA is seeking a patient-focused Phlebotomist. The candidate will collect blood and non-blood specimens, label samples, and operate routine lab equipment.

You will interact with patients and staff, perform clerical tasks, and follow chain-of-custody procedures for drug screens when required. The role requires a High School Diploma, at least 6 months of phlebotomy experience, and a CPT certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Six months phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible for patient groups from neonates to geriatrics.
• Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, phone system, etc.).
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• If applicable, collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.
