Job summary

University of Southern California Keck Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support phlebotomy, specimen processing, and related clerical tasks in a busy clinical lab.

Responsibilities include obtaining venipuncture samples, screening specimens, delivering products, and assisting with inquiries while maintaining safety and accuracy. Excellent communication and CPT certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• Minimum 1 year experience in phlebotomy, preferably in acute care.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) per CA DPH.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required; if card not on hire, obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood sample specimens by venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Receives and screens specimens for acceptability per guidelines.
• Delivers blood products to Surgery and surgical specimens to appropriate sections.
• Processes, distributes or packages all specimens received.
• Handles inquiries for lab results, specimen status and general information.
• Maintains professional interactions with patients and staff; adheres to policies.
• Participates in Quality Improvement and performs other duties as assigned.
