Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a Phlebotomy Lab Assistant to collect, accession and process pathology specimens while providing laboratory information to customers. The role includes training and supervising co-workers, students, and hospital staff.

Under direct supervision, you will extract blood, document steps, and ensure accuracy in patient data and specimen handling. The scope covers donor screening and routine lab duties with emphasis on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• High School education required.
• 6 months phlebotomy experience.
• 6 months laboratory accessioning experience.

Responsibilities

• Extract blood from patients and perform phlebotomy procedures (including children and infants) per aseptic venipuncture standards.
• Document all phlebotomy rounds in detail.
• Document outpatient callbacks including physician offices.
• Enter accurate patient demographic information and verify specimens against orders.
• Prepare and process specimens for testing (labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging) and distribute to appropriate areas.
• Perform Quality EKGs and complete demographic information.
