Job summary

Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, MN is seeking a Laboratory Technical Assistant - Phlebotomy for rotating day shifts. You will perform phlebotomy, waived testing, and specimen processing, while ensuring accurate LIS documentation and strict patient safety practices.

Minimum qualifications include medical terminology knowledge, prior laboratory experience preferred, and BLS certification within 90 days of hire. 1.0 FTE on rotating days, with competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy and specimen collection according to established protocols.
• Waived testing according to established protocols.
• Document patient specimen flow in LIS accurately.
• Provide patient safety and standard precautions in all tasks.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in phlebotomy collection techniques (venipuncture, capillary puncture, arterial if applicable).
• Collects throat cultures, urine, and other specimens as requested.
• Performs waived testing in immunology, urinalysis, chemistry, and hematology as applicable.
• Documents specimen flow in LIS and prepares specimens for dispatch to external labs as needed.
• Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to standard precautions.
• Assists with new employee orientation and training.
• Performs other duties as requested.
