Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and capillary punctures, ensuring accurate lab specimens and excellent patient care. The role acts as a liaison between patients, nursing staff and house staff, with focus on age-appropriate care for patients on assignment.

The position requires flexibility to travel to multiple Patient Service Centers, 40 hours per week, various day shifts, and every third weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• PBT (ASCP) certification preferred.
• Experience with venipuncture and capillary collection.
• Ability to interact with patients and staff professionally.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture per orders and procedures.
• Ensures the patient is informed and comfortable and safe.
• Identifies patient, communicates procedures, and performs phlebotomy duties.
• Adheres to safety guidelines and uses appropriate equipment.
• Obtains specimens, labels and transports to the specified area.
• Prepares specimens for processing and completes test paperwork.
• Manages incoming calls while providing necessary information.
• Greets patients and directs them as needed.
• Schedules or pre-schedules patient appointments when applicable.
• Interviews patient or representative for necessary information and completes registration as defined by policy.
• Verifies insurance eligibility/coverage and obtains necessary authorizations when applicable.
• Ensures data accuracy while meeting regulatory requirements.
• Exhibits effective communication with patients, physicians and hospital staff.
• Demonstrates flexibility and transportation to multiple Patient Service Centers or affiliated centers.
• Demonstrates commitment to RGHS STARS standards.
