Job summary

UNC Health in North Carolina is seeking a Per Diem Clinical Laboratory Support Technician to prepare patient specimens for analysis and provide technical support for a core laboratory service.

This onsite role requires a high school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree is preferred. No licensure required. Work schedule is variable with around 19 hours per week. Duties include equipment checks, troubleshooting and quality control, with potential teaching opportunities for students and residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consults/confers with healthcare providers and/or laboratory supervisor regarding specimen suitability, procedures, media preparation or instrument function checks.
• Investigates and troubleshoots problems with equipment, procedures, specimens, reagents and/or workflow.
• May assist in teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, fellows, visiting scientists and/or new employees.
• May monitor daily operation of a specific clinical service or program.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
• Performs specimen processing procedures. Provides quality control and equipment maintenance.

Education
