Job summary

HCA Florida Westside Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant / Phlebotomist to perform specimen collection, processing, and registration under supervision. You will support accuracy, turnaround times, and patient care in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

The role requires familiarity with venipuncture and specimen handling, plus adherence to safety, privacy, and regulatory standards. Vocational/Technical degree preferred and phlebotomy or related certification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical degree preferred.
• 1–3 years in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
• Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Paramedic or EMT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks as required.
• Process and label specimens according to testing orders.
• Enter orders and registration data accurately in the LIS.
• Maintain documentation and patient identification procedures.
• Educate patients about collection procedures when appropriate.
• Assist with clerical duties and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Follow established procedures for specimen handling and routing.
• Ensure timely specimen delivery and communication with team.
