Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and collects blood specimens from patients of all ages.
• Labels specimens completely and matches patient ID using two identifiers.
• Maintains specimen integrity per protocol, including ice/water, anticoagulant tubes and centrifugation.
• Verifies requisitions and corrects order discrepancies (e.g., duplicate panels, wrong provider).
• Keeps phlebotomy cart clean and stocked; replaces expired items.
• Enters orders in EMR and prioritizes specimens by routine vs STAT and patient location.
• Delivers specimens to the appropriate laboratory area in a timely manner.
• Provides lab-related customer service to nursing units and physician offices.
• Readsies specimens for shipment to a reference lab, including temperature separation.
• May assist in orienting new staff to the duties of the position.
