Responsibilities

• Performs duties of a Phlebotomist collecting blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary technique.
• Labels specimens accurately and matches patient ID using two identifiers.
• Maintains specimen integrity and handles specimens per protocol.
• Reads and interprets lab requisitions and corrects errors.
• Keeps phlebotomy cart clean and stocked; replaces expired items.
• Performs specimen receipt in the EMR and orders tests accordingly.
• Provides support to nursing units and physician offices for lab needs.
• Prepares specimens for shipment to reference labs.
• Performs other clerical duties as assigned.
• May assist in orienting new staff to duties.
