Job summary

Keck Medicine of USC seeks a Laboratory Assistant to procure blood samples, preserve specimen integrity, and handle processing and transport of all samples. The role also supports clerical tasks, answers inquiries, and communicates with patients and staff.

Required CPT certification and a phlebotomy program, with at least 1 year in phlebotomy (acute care preferred). Proficiency in MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods as requested.
• Receives and screens specimens for acceptability per guidelines.
• Deliveries of blood products to Surgery and specimen delivery to the Lab sections.
• Processes, distributes or packages all specimens received (except Anatomic Pathology).
• Handles inquiries for lab results, specimen status and general information.
