Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the laboratory team by collecting blood samples, ensuring specimen integrity, and handling processing and transport of specimens. You will also perform clerical tasks, answer inquiries, and interact professionally with patients and staff in a high-volume hospital environment.

The role requires completion of a phlebotomy program and prior phlebotomy experience, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program required.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred, ideally in acute care.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills; strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods per clinician requests, considering patient age.
• Receives and screens specimens for acceptability per guidelines.
• Delivers blood products to Surgery and transfers surgical specimens to appropriate sections.
• Processes, distributes or packages specimens (excluding Anatomic Pathology).
• Handles inquiries about lab results, specimen status and department information.
