Qualifications

• Understands specimen collection and testing requirements and criteria.
• Proficient in venipunctures and finger sticks across pediatric to geriatric patients.
• Follows patient identification and specimen collection procedures.
• Completes specimen collection documentation accurately.
• Educates patients/families on procedures prior to collection.
• Uses laboratory LIS and computer systems for job functions.
• Performs clerical tasks (faxing, phones, courier, reporting).
• Prioritizes tasks and plans to complete duties efficiently.
• Reviews OSR and pending specimen issues; acts as needed.
• Receives specimens into LIS and handles registration and orders.
• Labels specimens according to protocols and tests ordered.
• Centrifuges/aliquoting per specimen type and tests.
• Prepares specimens for courier and notes special instructions.
• Discards specimens per schedule; maintains records.
• Maintains equipment and performs preventive maintenance and QA as assigned.
• Collects chain-of-custody drug collections as required.
• Maintains documentation of specimen problems and corrective actions.
• Cleans area after spills; ensures safety and compliance.
• Assesses referral testing requirements and troubleshoots issues.
• Prepares samples for referral testing and monitors turnaround times.

• Receives and registers specimens; ensures accurate order entry.
• Labels and aliquots specimens per protocol and tests ordered.
• Centrifuges/aliquot specimens as required by tests.
• Prepares specimens for courier shipment with special instructions.
• Discards specimens per policy and maintains related records.
• Performs preventive maintenance and QA activities.
• Collects chain-of-custody samples when required.
• Keeps records of specimen problems and corrective actions.
• Cleans work area after spills; maintains safety.
• Assesses referral testing needs and troubleshoots accordingly.
• Ensures timely reporting of results to physicians.
