Job summary

University of Southern California Keck Hospital of USC seeks a Laboratory Assistant - Pre-Analytics for part-time evening shifts (non-exempt, union). Primary duties include obtaining blood samples, processing and transporting specimens, and handling lab inquiries.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, graduation from a accredited phlebotomy program, CPT certification, and at least 1 year phlebotomy experience, preferably in acute care. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• 1 year experience in phlebotomy (preferably in an acute care facility).
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in phlebotomy preferred.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) if card required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods.
• Receives and screens specimens per guidelines.
• Delivers blood products to Surgery and surgical specimens to labs.
• Processes, distributes or packages all specimens received (except Anatomic Pathology).
• Handles inquiries for lab results, specimen status and department information.
• Communicates professionally with patients, co-workers and guests.
• Adheres to hospital and departmental policies.
• Performs other clinical and clerical duties as needed.
• Maintains professional growth and participates in Quality Improvement.
