Del Mar College is seeking to continually fill a pool of qualified instructors for Phlebotomy and EKG courses. This non-exempt, part-time pool supports instruction across various times and locations as needs arise.

  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within college policy and procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
  • Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
  • Maintain daily attendance rosters.
  • Submit final hard copies of daily attendance rosters and grade sheets to the Continuing Education Department.

Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide high quality instruction and maintain a positive, safe learning environment for all students by instructing assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.

Phlebotomist:

Performs various types of specimen collection, phlebotomy (including mobile route) and drug test monitoring.

Reviews lab reports and performs quality review and troubleshooting, resolving problems as they occur.

Demonstrate to the students how to: obtain blood specimens by established venipuncture and capillary techniques; Label samples, send specimens to the laboratory for analysis, and how to complete essential records.

Electrocardiography ( EKG ):

This course will target students who are interested in learning the fundamentals of becoming a cardiovascular technician.

The instructor will demonstrate the fundamentals of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Includes basic electrocardiography procedures, interpretation of basic dysrhythmias, and appropriate treatment modalities.

Describe the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system; perform basic electrocardiography procedures; and interpret basic dysrhythmias.

Minimum Qualifications

Certifications in related field and/or High School Diploma.

Minimum 5 years related work experience.

Some disciplines may require additional education or certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years teaching or training experience. Experience developing lesson plans, classroom management, and curriculum.
